One arm loader question

I got the 1 arm loader installed that I bought from FordFarmer. I see the ram bouncing up and down as I drive around, and I lost hyd pressure for a while. Shut it down and restarted and it started working again. Ran it for another 20 min and it worked fine.

Suspecting that I have air in the system. Is it possible that while it was setting, that air got into the ram? If so, how can I bleed it out? don't see any leaks and the hose had a connector on it so the hose was sealed while it sat.

Sure do like that big bucket on it. Will have to get a pic for you guys.

I would be surprised if you have much air, but even if you do, they say you just need to run the loader to the top and back down a few times and it should bleed itself.

Did you overfill your hydraulic fluid? That cylinder takes quite a little fluid and if you don't fill your hydraulic reservoir with the cylinder extended, you may find you're sucking a little air. I've not needed to use mine much yet, but I have a few odd jobs it will help with soon.

As the other poster said.. you may have an empty hyd sump if you added no oil.. that's a pretty good sized cyl.. plus the hoseing..

as for bleeding.. well.. you are in luck.. at the fixed end of the cyl ( should be the top part, under the boom, you will find a lil screw.. remove the screw and operate the loader valve a lil.. air should blow out then oil.. replace screw and you have bled the cyl.. now fully extend, then add oil to the sump till it's good on the stick... I had to add nearly 2g of oil to my 711 loaders with bucket cyls.. the trip loaders will need a lil less oil as they are only 1 cyl / 1 hose..

My sump holds 6 gallons of fluid and it was slightly overfilled prior to the install. When I extend it all the way, I still get some fluid coming out the overfill port (no stick on this tractor). I am getting erratic operation. Mostly it is slow, sometimes it will not move and rarely it will move at a good speed. Perhaps do I need to bleed the hyd pump again? We just rebuilt it, bled it and it was operating good prior to the loader install.

Also, if I lower it quickly I hear the hyd pump rattle. Should it do that?

What kind of a hyd valve are you using.
If your pump rattles when you lower the loader it might be that you are using a double acting valve and it is deadheading the pump.
Most of the remote valves that you mount under the seat can be switched from double acting to single acting by turning a screw somewhere. If you could post a picture of it we might be able to advise you how to adjust it.

didto what ud said.. I doubt you need to bleed.. once it pumps.. the pump self bleeds.

if you are using a da remote to operate a sa cyl. the valve and pump won't be happy..

Had a call with UD, and he set me straight on this. Valve is frozen in DA mode (Mode change screw broke off, badly rusted). We now have a workaround by plumbing the other port back into the sump. That should resolve the deadheading the pump issue and give me some time before winter to rebuild the valve. Not going to run it until I get this resolved or I risk blowing the pump. Is was just rebuilt last week so I would not be happy to mess it up.
