ot old ford truck people

i need my memory refreshed,i just picked up a pretty nice 1971 ford 350 pickup with a 35 foot hydraulic ladder and utility bed on it, believe it or not the thing was in a garage sale and i wasnt even going to buy anything, i was just lookin, kind of like old tractors lol, anyway im pretty sure the truck has had an engine swap at sometime in its life, it has what looks like a 360 by its valve covers, which is what memory tells me should be there, but the air cleaner, which appears to fit the engine correctly has 361 on the decal, but the left front of the block has 352 in raised letters, where should i look on the older ford v-8's to comfirm the engine size in the truck?

352,360,390. All use the same block. I believe they all have 352 stamped in them. I too can"t remember where serial number would be. 361,391 are truck engines usually in f600 and up. Externally all of them look identical.

FE blocks are all the same and had 352 depending on year cast...the 361 has subtle differences except it will have a governor.360/361 is not a bolt in swap.

The 352 stamped on the front means nothing, its stamped on most all Fe engines. Whats in the truck could be a 360 or 390 from the factory. The air cleaner with 361 could"ve come from an edsel, they had a 361, looked just like a 360.

thanks guys, the cab tag says f35 yrk, which would be a 360 built in san jose ca,truck was sold as a chassis cab, engine is probably just what it should have in there it may have just picked up the 361 air filter someplace thru the years, only other feature i found interesting is the tranny which is a 4 speed but reverse is to the right-passengers side, and up toward the dash, the 68 i used to have had it in the normal location, right and back, toward the seat, a sticker in the glove box states to use 50 w oil in this transmission, also found the original owners manual and warranty card in there lol its hard to find that on a 3 year old car much less a 40 something year old truck , the hudraulic ladder/ bucket works good too other than 1 switch issue which i'll delve into after i do a few other things to it,like taking all my tools out of 5 trucks 2 trailers, the house and the barn and putting them in this one truck so i can actually find them!

IMHO, the 360 light duty engine will NOT have exhaust manifold bolts (or a provision for them) at the indicated locations. The HD 361 WILL.

Our 65 ford grain truck had reverse over and up. Since the responses are not from 150's I wonder if that was a heavier duty transmission.

one more question on this truck it was purchased new as a chassis cab it says on the door, and im assuming possibly by bell telephone, as it has that light green color as the first color over white, but the glovebox was full of the metal emblems, as its now red and black, i have found the correct placement for all but 1, [besides, anybody have a O for the hood?] but there is a pair of "custom" metal decals, the new truck photos ive found online as well as lmc, place these on the rear of the bedside above the side reflector, but this was a chassis cab so never had a bed on it, anybody know where these would have been placed? i know on the 73 and up they are on the cowl panel just forward of the door, but not sure on the 72 back, there are no holes on the truck for them

72 Ford F350, original 360 engine, 4 speed with reverse over to the right and down.

(quoted from post at 17:39:06 05/27/13) The casting date is on the bottom of the block at the oil filter adapter pad.

If the link does not work you can copy and paste

A couple wanna be mechanics that can not stand to be wrong (they are right no one else is) got my regular user named blocked.

They are drunk on gure alcohol.
F350 with np435 4 sp and pto with reverse over to rght and down. The 361Ft engines had motor mounts on the front of engine bolted to timing chain cover area. My F350 is also a cab and chassis with gvw of 10,000 lbs. Only way to tell a 351-360-390 is to check the stroke with a rod or stick in the sparkplug hole.

My white F350 has different cab and it came from a camper special. The old cab was eaten up so I swapped, that's why it sez camper special on the firewall area of cab.
