Parts washer

Want to buy a parts washer for my shop, what’s the best kind for farm tractor parts and equipment, a water based cleaner or solvent based parts cleaner? Or does it matter? Seems most are water based I’ve found

I've got the Harbor Freight parts washer. It works well, but I that using the built in pump and nozzle pretty useless. It's much easier to just dip the greasy part under the water and scrub with a parts brush and then dip again to rinse. All the pump does is splash solvent everywhere, walls, etc.

I also use their water based cleaner. It does a great job of cleaning, but eventually a layer of oil and grease floats on the top. I need to find a way to skim that off.

When cleaning greasy tractor parts, a parts washer is a very nice tool to have!

Being used to a petroleum type solvent, I don't have much use for the water based. If your shop isn't heated that makes your decision easier. I bought a large used parts washer, and get quite a few years out of the harbor freight pumps. I usually keep 5 gallons of solvent in mine could hold 10-15. I have the hose from the pump go to a brush the hose connects to.
