Oldest son made the maiden voyage today with his JD 55 ABH plow that he spruced up.

The 300 handled it pretty well. Once we kinda figured out how to go about setting it, I was pleased with the job it does compared to the 3pt ones we have.

He is planning on rotating the field this year to sweet potatoes. We were not able to finish up due to a thunderstorm in the making. Maybe tomorrow.

miss plowing good soil. i got 2 of those 55abh plows ,1 has lever and the other has a crank. i like the crank better. but not seen many with a crank

Made many rds. with a 55 plow....looks like it's doing a nice job. I like the stand of Pine trees at the border of the field.

looks good. must be going in 2nd gear , that must be the 3x 14's plow. i have the 3x16's plow i used to plow when a teenager. used to plow complete quarter with it.

Always nice to see plowing done.I only plow now after having hay in. I seen yesterday a 160 field that was plowed. Locally we have two brothers that do custom plowing with 3 larger tractors with 6 bottom plows. They have high speed bottoms on and really move along. They use GPS to set the field out and when they are done the field is perfect.

We have some of those type of guys around here as well, so big tractors and wider than the road and they just fly thru the fields and just going so deep that in a few years nobody will know what top soil ever was, it will all be sub soil. And I don't understand how they can get by without spending half there time in the repair shop from going so fast and deep. They could loose half the implement and not know it untill they came back for next round.

Second gear is best but in some spots third will work. And My plow was a 555ABH plow, for H as in hydrolic but only a 3-12 in plow. Have had 14 and 16 as well but did not like them. Here 7 in deep is all you should go for top soil depth, larger bottoms don't work as well at nepths need for correct top soil work. Even at the 7in would be seeing in bottom of furrow the yellow clay plowing at 7in and you should not want to see any of that yellow clay subsoil ever getting mixed in the top soil. And the John Deere 55 plow and the 555ABH are two entirely differnt plows. And I did not like hooking to a rock at the 7in depth let alone a 10in depth. as those 6 bottom plows would have been working at.

He ran in 3rd gear the while time. It is a good match for the tractor on that type of land. The plow is a 3 x 16 hydraulic lift.

We have areas in the community where it's a pretty good distance between patches of woods. A lot of pine and cedar trees were planted in select places as hedgerows to minimize the wind blowing the sand so terribly in these places.
