Polarize Generator

Have Ford 2000, 3 cyl. gas. New voltage reg. 12 v. +ground. How do I polarize the gen? You've told me before but I sure sometimes forget (86 years old)....

I know that there is a real defeniton- copied it before....but Dad always said- take a jumper wire, and touch it to any two contacts that make a spark, and it is polarized.

To polarize the genny, you can momentarily temporarily flash/jump/spark a wire from BAT on the VR over to its GEN/ARM terminal and you ought to get a small spark. Same things accomplished if you were to flash/jump/spark a wire from BAT on the VR (or any hot ungrounded battery voltage source for that matter) direct to the gennys ARM post. Do it BEFORE start up. You can first dead ground the Gennys FLD post to insure a good ground but if alls correct n the VR is good n grounded it should already have a ground via the VR. Dont be jumping to the VR or Gennys FLD post, jump to the ARM/GEN post per the above.

Bolt the generator up but don't install the belt or any wiring. Run a jumper from Battery + to the + on the generator. It will spin like a motor. Now go ahead and finish hooking everything up and go to work.
