Poor connection

Unhook all the old wires from the switch and only hook up the temporary ones to reduce the risk of shorting it out again

do I unhook the wire in this picture that goes to the starter solenoid before attaching new wire from ignition

Yes, only have the new wires hooked up at both ends at all three locations. Leaving the old ones hooked up on either end could cause a back feed and a short circuit.

Also unhook the battery anytime you leave it unattended or on the trailer.

ok thanks so where can I get this wire 14 gauge

I have get some connectors ones that have rubber on the ends
Auto parts or hardware store should have the terminal ends in small bubble packs. The common crimp on ones will have plastic or nylon sleeves on them, not rubber. Rubber is mostly seen on original applications, so you may not find those locally.

well I was just the ensure of the wires on key switch had rubber covering the metal that's all

I would use crimp connectors that you can use a heat gun to shrink the connector after crimping if it will be sitting outside at times.

yes I've heard of those and agree. I'm sending pic of I use for trailer. see if this is good enough or need bigger

Those can be used, but do not seal very well against moisture that decays the copper. I use the style without the plastic, then use shrink tubing placed down the wire, then crimp and solder the joint, then slide the tubing over the solder joint and heat with a heat gun to shring. Jim on the

If Terry doesn’t come back in my opinion those will be fine. I don’t know how hard it is to get the switch back in the dash, it could probably just hang down there somewhere after the connection are made and have been tested to work wrap a couple of rounds of electrical tape around the switch and they bare terminals. Then tape it to something to secure it even the gear shift would work.
If you are making connections to the starter solenoid as Jim shows. Remove the battery cable from the terminal circled in the photo I attached showing Jim’s connections. Remove all smaller wires off that terminal and only put the battery cable and the lead wire as shown in Jim’s diagram. Tape the wires back that you have removed. This will cut power to all the original tractor wiring and help assure no other shorts or damage will occur during transport.

Jim N this is only a temporary connection. It will only be driven on and off a trailer. He is taking it to a local vocational tech school for repair.

I meant the starter terminal on the solenoid
It is circled in the photo, hopefully that is the same as yours. If you have wires on the spades that the arrow points to unplug those. Those are the wires I asked you to disconnect in the last part of my reply 194. And hopefully there are no other small wires on the actual terminal it self only the battery cable. If a regular female spade terminal will plug on those terminals shown by the arrow you can use that to connect to the wire you are running to the “battery power terminal” Jim shows in his diagram in post 153.

Well so far I've run wire to fuel shut solenoid and ignition wire from switch to place where positive cable goes to on starter solenoid. the picture of yours is not like mine. I have another small black wire attached to the solenoid which I have used a jumper on when bypassing the ignition. now please be patient I'm trying. now do I run wire from battery terminal on switch to a.wire on the solenoid.

Oh my goodness son. I really think its time you hook a tow strap to that thing and pull it up to voeh, tech.
