Sorry it's kind of long. Mel, Thad, dboll & others, need some honest opinions & answers about swapping/replacing the 301 in an 830 low profile with a 401BD I have from a '69 970. This is just to use a little and maybe for a few plow days. The 301 at this point is leaking antrifreeze into pan, have drained oil & the clean bucket under plug is getting antifreeze in it so assume o-rings at least bad. If I tear into that far might as well overhaul it and I don't have any history on it now. 401 is a good motor with known history, 970PS has hole in bottom of trans housing. Will the 401 fit under the low pro sheet metal? I have extra hood sheet metal to extend for 6 cyl length, width?. Will the shorter radiator handle the 85 hp? The early 401 block is already machined for the steering shaft. Will I need the fylwheel, starter and ring gear from a 970 mechanical shift? What clutch? Or should I just sit on the 401 and find another 930 or 970 to put it in?
Thanks,
Brad
