Steve, same thing happened to me. Had a 2nd grade teacher hold my, and another girls papers up in front of the class and announce that these were the worst handwriting she had ever seen in her teaching career! My dad always complained that he couldn't read my writing...

So after a while I just got to where I would print whenever allowed. Later, most everything I did job related was printed, as in prints and schematics.

To this day I am very uncomfortable trying to write cursive. Only time I do is signing my name or writing a check. I absolutely hate to have to write something on a greeting card!

No way I'm posting a sample on here! LOL

Still have the PEN?

Big shots always kept their SCHAFFER pen, sometimes to show leak on Pin STRIPES inner pocket. Available now at SALVATION ARMY STORES, here.

I would love to own a MONTE BLANC, yet.

Hello John,pa,

NO! The pen I use now is an service anniversary award from work. It is a Schaffer, ink is about done. I need to find a source. I do not do the internet thing!

Guido.

OFFICE DEPOT (tm) has some for "fountain pens" in stock. Or better yet, get a small bottle of CARTER's ink for re-ink'N the rubber stamp pad.

Yesterday, at my son's print shop, he asked me to write up a letter for our local high school alumni foundation, as he couldn't come up with the right wording. I printed the thing out first, and then for giggles, I rewrote the thing in cursive, just to see if I still could. Asked him to read it back to me, and he could. Surprised me that he could read my handwriting. AND, he said I did a good job......

I use to cursive writeing but when I got a job in a store I had to print. I at one time was a bad printer in writeing but a good cursive writer. Now I print all the time as a custodain in school district I still have to print so every body understands what I write. All my notes at work have to be readable for every one to understand them so printing them in writeing gives them no guessing to the content of the note. Now there trying to make me write in spanish and learn the to speak spanish because I live in California. That is why I am retireing because this I can not do.

Hello John,pa,

Last time I bought ink was at JCPenny. It was not cheap as I recall! I still have a few refills left though.

Guido.

Hello GordoSD,

One thing always puzzled me at night school, math was done on the same lined paper as the written word?, How many of us had the right answer but put the digits on the wrong vertical line. In the old country we did math with paper that had squares? Different country I guess!!

Guido.

Hello GordoSD,

You must be proud of your cursive writing, you post is double.................HA! HA!

Guido.

Went to high school in the UK, finished grade 12 in 1990, the school required we used a fountain pen, had little cartridges of ink pre filled, and a refillable cartridge. Used either a Parker or Shaffer pen..., and blotting paper to stop the smudges... Still have the pens somewhere, not used them in years...

Guido, remember the old commercials, "Is it real, or is it Memorex"? I know that doing it yourself makes it more personal, but who's going to know whether or not it's Microsoft or not?

Hello Mark-IN,

I would know! But some would say who cares? Lucida was my choice of fonts many computers ago, that is still one of my favorites. Used to play with fonts. Many fonts will look different when you change their size, if they are in cursive. Lucida reminds me of hand written invitation. I call it clean calligraphy. Happy scribling!

Guido.

Hello larry@stinescorner,

That is a facsimile of cursive writing, man! You got fat letters. What did you use? My guess would be either a finger dipped in ink or a two by four! HA! HA!. Hey just kidding Larry. Just saw the patching barn work.Excellent work as usual! Later......

Hello on,

My fountain pen was a stick wit a tip, and did not last long. My current pen is gold tipped. I've had it since 1992. I like to use it for my Christmas cards,

Guido.

Hello Larry,

I knew that, I thought that Sharpe? BY
Design where sharper then that!. Boy you walked right into that one. HA HA......

Yep our desks all had holes for ink jar. And I still have several desks; those with a seat for the kid in front of you.

Other than when signing my name I haven't written in cursive since I was in high school. No sense in me posting a sample on here. No one would be able to decipher it.

Hello Pops1532,

I guess we can call it a lost cause! We will probably be using some new way to replace
signing one's name. Eye recognition maybe?

Guido.

Back in the fifties in parochial grammar school the nuns made us write cursive with fountain ink pens. came home many days with ink on the white dress shirts the school made us wear. four years in the military writing numerous letters home with a ball point pen kind of ruined my writing skills. Now its all written thru key strokes on the keyboard.

Hello PAGlen,

I can se you had the same pleasant experience, Nuns and fountain pens. Not all good memories! In the old country all were required to write with the right hand, left handed or not! I had a learning curve with the ball pens, you had to stand them up almost vertically to make them work. I was so used to slant the hand. Also there are 5 more letters in the English language then the Italian one. JKWXY are the extra ones. Funny we did use K to indicate Kilometer Kilogram. The Italian CH is pronounced K. It is not bruschetta but brusketta. Different country I guess!

Guido.

Hello Handy Martin,

There was somebody from the my old ountry that wrote like tbat. Guess who?

Guido.

Funny you called me Handy, the girls in High School use to call me Handsy. I went into engineering because I figured a "hands on" engineer would be a good engineer. Worked for me anyway.

Hello Andy Martin,

Anyone that can write mirror is defiantly handy, or should I say ambidextrous? I don't
know if the latter applies to you.
By the way he was called Lenardo. He wrote his notes that way. Very popular around
Leonaredo's time.
It is said that left handed people have less trouble writing that way. Why that is? the
jury is still out,

Guido.

My mother was an artist, she was especially good at calligraphy. Everyone raved about the fine lettering on the Christmas cards she sent. It's almost a lost art, but it's actually pretty easy with a good pen and a little practice.

My father was a draftsman, his handwriting wasn't especially good but his printing was perfect; you've probably seen blueprints with proper lettering.
