Trying to understand the logic of which starters were used on which tractors...
Bought a 2470 that needed a starter, thought I would steal one from the 1370 to get it home... Nope. 13 has a 10 tooth 35 series starter? The 24 had a 12 tooth 40MT.
Our 870 and 970 have a 40MT that dad had built to help cold weather starting back in the day, I think they had 10 tooth bendix installed in them to get the job done...
a 1030 appears to have a 12 tooth 40MT according to the parts books, but mine has a 1070 engine in it, I'm guessing they use a 1030 flywheel to make it work... It is deep in a cold unlighted shed, maybe later this week I will see if I can get it off and try it...
It seems some have said on here that there is a gear reduction starter used on some of the 90 and 94 series tractors... do they replace the 10 tooth or 12 tooth? Is the tooth change accomplished by using the ring gear? Any idea of a part number to look for on this starter?
