This vise must have been owned by a sadist.
I just can't imagine abusing a nice tool like it was.
I took it apart, welded up the worst of the holes and milled the jaw faces so they are almost clean again.
You can buy new jaw inserts for them but stock ones wouldn't have fit so I made my own. It needs a new clamping ring so I have a new one coming from Heinrich.
I fixed up one just like this last winter.
It was fun, satisfying and not too costly.
My 87 yo best friend Kenny really liked that one so I found and fixed this one for him.

I have one similar to that. Perhaps you could tell me why it pulls tight on the right but not on the left. It has been getting slowly worse for the last 18 years.

Looks good. How much is the clamping ring? I have one that doesn't tighten up too well.
