Tool perhaps

Is this a tool and what can you tell a guy about it I have never used it.

Looks like a drip torch for setting backfires in the woods or lighting fields for burning. My son uses one with our Forestry Commission.

Yep, apparently the kerosene equivalent of a propane "weedburner". Wonder if it could have had something to do with lighting coal or heavy oil to start the fire in large boilers?

I see someone makes a modern version...
