trouble light

What do you guys think is the best trouble light? The new led, florecent,or the old light bulb?I havent been around the new led but you sure do see them everywhere.

Haven't tried the led ones but sure don't use the old light bulb ones. I have a florescent one I like. Stays cool and works well. Years ago I had one of those light bulb ones blow a bulb because of a gas drip. Let me say I moved fast when that happened

Many times one of those small LED flashlights works better than a trouble lite. Seems as though I can never position them right to put the light where I'm working and not back in ny eyes. Small flashlight can be held in your teeth if needed! Bulb type is easier to use for me, florescent harder to position and see with. Fellow who had bulb blow has a good point. That'd be scary! I'm had several bulbs blow or break, fortunately not with inflamables present.

I switched to a compact fluorescents after having been burned, set afire, left in the dark and shocked by the old incandescent droplights more times than I can count. (I'll never use an incandescent again!!)

I've tried my son's new cordless LED light a couple times recently. So far I like it - adequate light, stays cool and no cord. Only downside is it's longer than the compact fluorescent I normally use so it may not always fit in tight spaces. OTOH you're not tethered to a cord. And being battery powered the LED doesn't have potential ground fault issues of 120 volts AC when working on wet ground.

Just last weekend I tried a high powered LED headlight (sorta like a modern day miner's lamp) I received as a gift as a trouble light. It worked GREAT! Compact, hands-free and automatically illuminates wherever it is you are looking. This one may be my "trouble light of the future".

I put the squiggly flourescents in my drop lights. I have one frined that will go thru 3 regular bulbs a day. He has not messed up a light since i put the squiggly bulgs in. And no burns on me either.

Picked up a $5.00 Wally World 1-LED headband light a year or so ago. Like it so much it stays permanently in a pocket of my cargo pants so I'm rarely without it while working around the house or garage. Got my dad one as well, and Mom says it's practically a permanent fixture on him now! The nicest thing is that the light is always where you look, and there's hardly ever an issue with clearance--pretty much if you can fit your head in somewhere to see, you can use the headband light to allow you to see better, all without tying up either hand or trying to find a spot to hang it where it will still illuminate the area you want.

I know why they are called droplights. Every time I drop one the bulb filament breaks. That is usually half way through the job and I don't have any spares around or have to walk up to the house to get one.

I got a battery chargeable Led and a plug in LED. The put out nice light. The long chargeable one with a magnet on the end came from Sams. Sometimes I might bump it and knock it off the fender or whatever it was stuck on. Have a flourescent on a cord and it is good but not bright like the led.

Sometimes I don't want to drag out the extension cord and just use a regular old 6 volt flashlight to focus a lot of light on one place. Wish they had a led that worked like a flashlight.

Some years ago in a town near here, a mechanic in a shop was killed by an incandescent trouble lite. Was working on a gas tank on a car on a hoist, was under the car, he did something and had a gas leak, trouble lite got dropped in the confusion, bulb broke, spark lit off the gas and the 3rd degree burns he got killed him.

Have used the compact CFLs (squiggly bulbs) for some time and like them. Can put a 23W bulb (= 100W incandescent) in a plastic lamp rated for only 60W incandescent and get a bunch of light without the 60W heat.

Have looked at the LED lites and just haven't quite bitten on one yet but the time is coming.

I use two Flourescents on Cords but the one I really like is my LED Head Band Lite from Cabelas. Hands free,lite weight and no bother. the Head band stays in place and where you look you have light. They are sold at Cabelas as Hunting aids but in the shop is where I use mine.I have plenty of light in the shop but a little extra is always welcome.

My post is word for word with TimV. They make them that clip on the bill of your bal cap. but I'm not a hat person,

I have three of those headlights, simply great. I also have six of the LED flashlights that are small enough to put in my pocket. They are great also, but you know where they are made now days, and I don't have to rell you about the switches not working. Must be something to do with the shrink packaging because they never worked right out of the package without shaking them.

I use one of those NAPA brand cordless lights best light I've ever had,even with rough use they last about a year, for $30 bucks it's worth it to me not fight cords and bulbs, we also carry a pocket mag light for 'peeking' into spots. When I built my shop I went with'plenty' of the 'good' high bay lights, the place is lit-up like a Hospital..
