Versatile 875 alternator wiring diagram.

Just purchased this tractor and the amp gauge is missing and wiring is a mess. Looking for a wiring diagram to get it back operating.

What all isn't "operating"? The charging output of the alternator goes directly to the battery cables at the starter solenoid.

There is NO Amp guage in the instrument panel, but there should be a Voltmeter.

Even with the Voltmeter missing that would not prevent any other function from operating.

There should be a wiring diagram in the Operator's Manual, and likely in the Parts Catalog. You can view the parts catalog at the CNH parts site or Messicks. You will need to know the year to find the correct parts catalog, you should be able to find that vy going to Tractordata armed with the serial number. Come to think of it, some years had the year stamped on the I. D. tag.

If you can' find "875" in the catalog lookup, try "V875".

Yes I should have said voltmeter. Everything seems to operate ok except fuel gauge but that’s a different problem. Hooked what I thought was a power wire from the key and turned key on and the wire started to melt. Haven’t checked into much more after that.

It looks like it depends on what year you have as to whether or not the parts catalog shows a wiring diagram that will help you decipher anything about your electrical system. I just so happened to pick the 1981 model and the diagram in the parts catalog would be of no use. However, I looked at the 78 and 79 and the diagrams there looked okay, that is provided the wires are numbered. I don’t know much about those tractors but it is a good chance they used numbers on the wiring like a lot of semi tractors did or at least I know Freightliner did. I will link the parts parts catalog WO is talking about. I am working off a phone not sure how it reacts on a PC. There are 3 or 4 search boxes together at the top. Then down a bit there is “Search Parts Catalog” by itself, this is where you type in 875V, then the years will come up to select. On a phone if you want to “reset” to search again you click the “New Holland” insignia at the top, then chose it again as a brand.

I know you came here mostly looking for a wiring diagram. I just want to say you are missing a few details on “what the wire is exactly that started smoking” power wire to what? Remember, you are there looking at it. We only have what your words describe to go off of.

Thanks for the info. I know I’m lacking information by I haven’t spent enough time checking it further. It is a 1978 model.
