wrong color tractors

The post below got about the Farmall H got me wondering about your opinion on Tractors being painted the wrong color. I have seen 2,8, and 9N's painted every color of the rainbow. Case tractors have been several colors over the last 100 years from the factory and have seen Cases painted the newer Case color ( SC painted desert sunset and flambeau. I own it so I will do what I want with it, or out of respect for the Jerome, Henry, Cyrus or John, I will paint it the color it came from the factory., What is your opinion? Thanks, Bill

I prefer them to be the correct color with the correct decals where they're supposed to be. I do not like it at all when they have some kind of custom paint job, and many of them are very high quality jobs. Of course that's just my opinion and if it's yours you can have how ever it makes you happy but it won't get a favorable 2nd look from me. If you want to make an old tractor stand out from the crowd I'd rather see one with some rare factory options, hard to find parts (like farmall battery box lids or grill filler pieces) or M&W parts on them that were available back in the day

I painted the hood on my cx100 flat black because when running at night with lights on there was a reflection off the red hood.
Its my tractor and I will do what I want.

To me, Nothing is more boring than seeing rows of identical model anything. It’s yours, do what you like. If you want a concourse restoration with all the screws clocked, go for it! If you want to be creative, more power to ya!

Wow for me I like to see the antiques painted correctly. But I don't get to upset on custom jobs or if someone uses the wrong shade or color. (example old Moline painted lemon yellow). I just can't picture stuff like an old Case CC painted deep purple. Some of the girls in the local tractor club have some like that. There was a pink Cockshutt too!

I prefer correct colors, but have seen some custom colors I liked. Saw a 530 in two tone pink that looked nice. Loren had a David brown painted the late case black/white combo that looked real nice.

I prefer correct colors, and I prefer a factory-kind of paint job, not an automobile job with smoothing and clear-coat.

You do your tractor. The likelihood that any of mine will ever get painted is so small that it won't matter what I prefer for them.

I have a parts M sitting in my yard and an IH 220 or 240 engine from a street sweeper in my barn. I was thinking I should put them together and put the narrow front from the street sweeper under the front of the extended M frame. Then paint it much like the aforementioned H. My tractor. Nice restorations are, well...nice. If you want to do something different, no skin off of my teeth. If I don't like it that's my problem, not the owner's.

If for show, shown as original, then should be original. New paint as it came from the factory. Otherwise, each their own. Same with originality but if not, you didn't do it "right" don't get on a high horse when called out. The first Farmall HDta diesel I saw made me smile, owner pushing off as a very late H. Most were Hta and Hta diesel. Just a 350 in H sheet metal, but better as I like the look of an H better than the 300 and 350. One thing that gets me is a Farmall painted black, other colors to honor a person or group don't bother me a bit. I have no problem "updating" a paint scheme, I have seen and done that, 20-30 series JD. H,M. Farmall white grill. Case colors. I have seen some nice looking V series in later paint schemes....James

My father, uncle, and cousin (20 years my senior) used to work together. My cousins big tractor early on was a JD 620, or so I thought. I remember talking with my father, and mentioning the 620. He rather disgustedly growled "it's not a 620". Turns out he apparently bought it as a left over 60 and had it painted when still new to look like a 620.
What I think is annoying is haphazard placement of decals. If you're going to bother, might as well do it right.

I have a WD with WD45 decals. They didn't trick me, as I had no clue what either of them were at the time. But do I get bonus points? The decals ARE in the right position, now that I know the deal :D

I don't care for all the alterations to a tractor guys do but its not my tractor so doesn't matter if I like it. It would matter if it were up for sale around me as I probably wouldn't bid on it. I bought a BN tractor was drastically altered to put on a 3 pt hitch and live hydraulics. Kind of clever what the guy did but all the add ons were able to be undone, the base tractor was something I really wanted, the price was a steal so I bought it and converted it to being like an original.
