i have an 1997 model 240 massey. i put a new pump on the tractor steering works great until it heats up. fluid gets so hot that pump and lines get too hot to touch and it gets hard to turn @low rpms. still have problem. any suggestions?

Hi there. Sorry to bother you. You posted about a m.f. 261 knocking before you press the clutch. And was wondering what you found out? . I have experienced the same thing and was wondering what it was. Thank you for any info.. have a great week!
(P.s. I hate social media so I am probably doing this wrong I am only 38 but hate what it has done to society) So please forgive me if i am doin this wrong, lol

Hello All, New to the farming community and just here to learn and pickup good pointers for now. I have a small place in Southern Ohio. I picked up a New Holland 985 combine and hope to find others that might have one. She seems to be in great shape and everything seems to work. Still learning of course. I don't get around as good as I used to so I take things kind of slow and easy.

I am a struggling to retire contractor( hard to say no to soooo many good customers) I have refurbished my dads old Massey Harris 50 and I have 2- 8n tractors that need a lot of help. Hard to understand how people can take a beautiful piece of equipment and leave it out in the weather for years. I live just outside of Pocatello, Idaho in Bannock County.

Morning Bruce you were only 10 miles from me in Saratoga Springs. My wife is related to Jeanette Arsenault singer from Prince Edward Ontario. Loren was here to visit 3 times and we were at his place 2 times. Wish we could of connected maybe next time Ron

If only I had known, I would have enjoyed meeting you. Saratoga Springs is a very nice area, and certainly appears to be prosperous. We went for dinner at a BBQ , I can’t remember the name, but it was right across the road from the hotel we stayed in .The Saratoga Spa, I believe it was called, beautiful place.

Humbling as it is... the YT caller last night nailed it, and it was actually much ado about nothing. Visually I couldn't see a disconnect or loose connection, but when I got down and looked very closely ( with my glasses on ) I noticed that one of the connectors had popped loose.
Lesson learned !
Chalk another one up to Occam's Razor...

Howdy Plowman. I am trying to restore the attached middle-20240829_163333[1].jpgbuster, or possibly potato plow. Can you tell me exactly what this implement is, the proper nomenclatures for parts needed,, and point me to where I can get the parts to finish the project?

I apologize. I forgot to check on this site for contacts. The part number is 29303D. This is actually a carburetor for a PA-50. It is the same carb as for a W-40, but with bigger jets. If you wish, you can call or text at 507-766-0378. John

So I’m working on taking apart my 1945 John Deere Model A, but I have a question how do you properly remove the connecting rod bearing from the connecting rod and cap without damaging the connecting rod?

You have posted your question in the "profile" section of this site where very few people will see it, I dunno why this option even exists.

You need to surf over the the DEERE Board, https://forums.yesterdaystractors.com/forums/john-deere.18/ and ask your question.

That being said, does your tractor of babbited rods, or rods with a "precision insert"?

I have a Ford 1952 8N, 6V, side distributor that I was using with a bush hog. After cutting most of my grass, it stopped and couldn’t get it to crank/turn over..

checked the fuel tank, bowl, & carb. Rebuilt carb and tried a new carb. Tractor is getting fuel but no spark/tractor won’t turn over. So I moved to the ignition side.Firstly, checked/charged up my battery to where it showed 7V. Next checked/replaced the starter solenoid, got good voltage to the ignition button, and checked/replaced the ignition coil. Still won’t turn over.

Finally, just to see if I have some spark on the tractor, we attempted to jump it off. It immediately turned over/cranked however the moment I take my thumb off the ignition button, it dies. At a loss on where to go next.

I got a powerstar 75 1 and 1/2 years old, my loader quivers lots of times lifting and lowering, been doing it since I got it and seems to be getting a little worse. I added 1 quart of fluid and will see if that helps. dip stick shows full but I'm going to try adding small amounts. I'm planning a fisit to the dealer before the warranty runs out. Is yours still acting up?

that generator in the picture is 12 volt. Tractor was 6 volt from the factory in 1957. The secret to a 6 volt system is large battery cables double 00 is best to use, make sure all contacts are clean and bright. Install a good 6 volt generator, voltage regulator and a new 6 volt battery. Have the starter rebuilt by a good rebuilder to 6 volt spects.
