    small engine question

Hey all, need an opinion on this. I have a 91 briggs 14 hp that started to burn a bit of oil last season. I figured the rings were starting to wear so I tore into it. They seemed to have worn a bit compared to the new ones I bought. My question is, there is a small pin head sized pit in...

    Un-identified finish mower UFM

You know, that looks almost exactly like my IMCO Challenger II. Dunno though, mine is yellow and white. Been a great mower for me.

    Ford 4000

Thx for the opinions guys. From what the owner said, it has a live PTO, but then again I do not know much about this model. From the pictures I have been viewing, it doesn't have the lever on the right of the wheel for the select o speed. He said you had to pull up (or push down, cant...

    Ford 4000

OK guys, went to see it yesterday afternoon. metal looks good, no rust tires are a bit tired but not too bad standard 4 speed guages don't work except for temp guage has a rebuilt carb (OEM) He says that it burns ~1/2 quart per two hours bush hogging and that the genny doesn't charge...

(OT) the other light bulb ban no one's talking about

Actually T8 bulbs are almost twice as bright as T12's. Therefore you would need half the fixtures for the same light, fairly economical, plus they use less electricity with the electronic ballasts vs the old magnetic ones. To retro your existing fixture will run around 30 bucks (ballast only).

    proofmeter question

Ok, this question may seem a bit silly, but how do you read your proofmeter? There are 4 numbers in white starting from the left, these are the hours run I assume. The next number is black, is this half hours? Then the last dial (far right) is colored half black and half white, what is the...

    finish mowers

Now, with the other thread going on about riding mowers, it got me thinkin about a new mower for dad's N ('52 side mount). The old Challenger 6 ft. finish mower that we have had for 20+ years is starting to get a bit "growley". Just wanted to see what brands seem to hold up the best AND...

    OT- Lawn Tractor/Mower

My experience: When my lovely bride and I got married, I yes she is lovely, 16 years ago we decided to get a rider for the yard. 1.5 acres and rougher than a plowed feild our little Lowe's brand, 14/42 has performed flawlessly. Just a cheap mower ($999 if I remember) with the 14 hp I/C...

    gasket or silicone rtv material

I must agree with Dave, If ya got gaskets, use 'em. Thats what they make 'em for. I also am not a big fan of silicone but will use it sparingly if no gasket is available. I will however use a little hi-tack to hold my gaskets in place while attaching pieces.

    lift piston

I had the cover off last year to "inspect" why the lift was slow. After lube change, quadrant adjustment (which I learned to do on here), and a weld job of that cam follower pin, the lift worked great. I did pull the piston out while I was cleaning it up and the cylinder looked fine. I just...
