    motor oil ruining cams

So, did I get this right? We have the flat-tappet cams in our old ford tractors, but it's probably not an issue because of the low-pressure valve springs. BTW I have a '64 4000(4 cyl.)

    motor oil ruining cams

I don"t know if this subject has ever been on here before, so here goes. I heard from a guy at work today that the newer motor oils have reduced ZDDP(a zinc/phosphorous compound)so much that it is causing damage to camshafts on many older(pre '89) engines. Has anyone heard of this, and if so...

    wheel wts.

I"m going to be getting a subsoiler soon, so I"m guessing I will probably need some wheel wts. Are pie wts. easy to find? What would be an average price for a set? Do they fit on any type of wheels? Are there other types of wts.? Sorry for all the questions. Your help is appreciated. mark

    subsoiler

I"m thinking of getting a subsoiler to cut roots at foodplot edges and to break up hardpan(if it exists). I have no experience with one and was just wondering if they really make a big difference in productiveness of a field. Thanks for any advice. I won"t be back until Monday(11/19) so if I...

    Carb Question

It sounds like your talking about the main jet on the bottom of the carb. Yes, I would say you definitely need the o-ring on that needle or it would leak. The needle with the spring is the idle adjustment and mine does not have a gasket/o-ring on that one either. You might be able to find one...

    12 volt conv.

I read over on the Smith forum that if you convert from six to twelve volt you should use a true 12 volt coil so you get hotter spark. This is in contrast to a 6volt coil and dropping resistor. The latter is what I have. If I change to a 12v coil do I leave the resistor on, or take it off? Does...

    The harder the better...

That sounds like a nice size tractor to have. Is it category I or II? Is she a heavy drinker? mark

172cu.in. and around 45-50hp depending on what source you look at.

    ford 800

Bloomune, I was having the same trouble as you. My screens(fuel shutoff and sed. bowl) were in good shape, the rust was simply going through them. I had my tank lined with the epoxy and cleaned the carb. I've only ran it under load twice since then but both times it ran just fine, no faltering...

    valve cover leaking

Glen, where did you find the spec. I looked in my owners manual and the IT manual and coudn't find it in either. Maybe I just didn't look in the right place. mark

    valve cover leaking

Thanks for all the good advice, guys. When I go see Ol' Blue next weekend I'll have to determine which nuggets of info I'll have to use. mark

    valve cover leaking

1 1/4 to 2 in. lbs? That doesn't sound like much torque at all. I'm sure I have a lot more than that on it. Maybe that's my problem.

    valve cover leaking

I recently had the gas tank off on my "63 4000(172ci) so I decided to change the gasket on the valve cover while it was easy to get to. Well, sure enough, now it leaks. Anyway, I just wonder if anyone has any tips. The new one is the rubber(neoprene?) type. All surfaces seemed to be clean when I...
