1949 A generator curved adjustment bracket

had to get a new genny for my 49 A, the case is different from the one I had on it, the bottom 2 mounting holes line up fine, no problem, but the top hole for the belt adjustment is different. My model 50 generator has a curved connecting piece that fits and connects to the mounting adjustment bracket. I haven’t had any luck searching my shop manual or on line yet for that piece, I believe it is a JD part, it was on the 50 when I got it 30+ years ago, anyway I need the same piece for the A. I probably could just get by with the 2 bottom mounting bolts but would like to find that piece, will try to post a pic of it along with the new A genny,nthxs

Have not seen any genny's like that on a 50 or any other Deere. You have the wrong genny. Time to go to an auto salvage yard and get a few different adjusting straps to see which one works better, if you plan on using that genny. Looks like they sold you one close to your original one, but not the right one.

Like I said the genny on my 50 was the one that was on the tractor when I bought it 30+ years ago and has worked fine since then, 12v, positive GND. The new genny that I had rebuilt came off another A and hopefully going on my A. I know the rebuilt A genny works, I guess I need to figure out some kind of connecting piece. I know this site sells new gennys , but they are not cheap, ugh

Matthies, thanks for the insight on the gennys, after thinking about it I figure that when I got the 50 I just assumed that was correct. The new genny for my A is obviously not correct since the case is different, I got it on line so my bad, lesson learned. I’ll go on the hunt for a correct A genny and keep the other one for spare parts, thanks again, I always learn stuff on this site

I know it’s not original but this is what I did for a bracket on the 52. On an alternator you would have to move the lower bracket just below but you wouldn’t even need to do that

While you are looking for the right generator you could use the tractor if you wanted to.

I prefer this on an alternator conversion over the purchased erector set brackets.

I actually went and bought a snap on one after I cleaned up the fan since it seemed to work well the first year and the curve fit even better than this first one. And cost less then the bracket places sell it was 25 dollars iirc (still insane for a single small wrench but it has a lifetime warranty)

Thanks, the smart move would be an alternator in the long run but trying to keep it original or at least close to it. Found a bracket that 60-66 chevys used that will probably work, since the rebuilt Ginny is working good will keep it on till I right the correct one at a decent price

I like the idea of keeping the generator, too. As for the bracket...Just get a piece of flat strap of the correct width and thickness, fire up the torch, and bend it to the radius of the one that's on the other tractor. Drill a couple mounting holes as needed, add a little rattle can paint. To make sure the belt runs true to all pulleys, check it with a straight edge. You may need to add a spacer or several washers on one side or the other of the bracket or generator.
