    3 Oliver pullers

Finished up the pulling season last night in Orrilla, night before at Bobcaygeon. Both great nights for a tractor pull. Feel kinda down that I have to put them away for the winter shortly. A fellow came up to me last night and asked what makes old Olivers such good pullers? I said simple they...

    clutch for Oliver 88

What are you fellows running for a clutch in your Oliver pullers? I managed to get a 12 inch pressure plate and a 4 button disc from a 1655 in the 88 bell housing by grinding a tad inside the housing. However it was all in vain as one pull and it slipped quite badly. I am finding that automotive...

    1750 eratic rpm

Picked up a 1750 diesel a while ago that had been sitting for several years. Some fresh fuel, filters and some tinkering and had it running, but rpm fluctuates at lower rpm's. Seems too run half decent wide open, but when at lower rpm especially if you let the clutch out that puts a slight bit...

    Two engine oil filters?

Picked up this engine today and as you can see has 2 engine oil filters. Is this factory or has someone added one of the filter castings instead of the blanking plate? I think this came out of a very early 1800. I have never seen this before, but maybe the early 1800 diesels had 2 filters????

    1800A

Picked up this 1800A last night. At first thinking just for parts, but other than what seems like a carb float setting issue, manifold leaks, radiator missing, steering stiff, it seems to run decent. At least well enough to drive it on the float, so looks like another project to bring it back to...

will 88 camshaft fit in a 4 digit

In need of a camshaft for a 310 gas and am thinking a 88 or 880 cam may work? Have been looking for a 310 cam with no luck so far and thinking as I have to get ground anyway would a 88 cam work. Journal sizes are the same , and I think length is the same? Probably a long shot but hoping someone...

    Advice on seeding down

This coming spring I plan on seeding down around 30 acres to alfalfa/timothy/treefoil/brome. I have always used oats as a cover crop, but more often than not it seems like the oats smother out the hay. You can see by the attached pics of my last attempt what I mean. You can see some alfalfa in...

    1550 rear end oil level

Just going over some tractors that need some work before spring. Had to randr PTO clutch pac on the 1550. Thought I better top off the gear oil after, but confused by the level plug. As you can see by pic there is a elbow on level check hole that is layed down flat. Am I thinking right that this...

    880 wheatland drawbar

Just looking thru some old 880 brochures and noticed the option of a wheatland drawbar with platform. If you look close at drawbar it has an extra crosser for drawbar to set on,drawbar frame looks wider than what I have on both of mine, plus what looks like a checkerplate platform. I have never...

    USX carb video

Thought this was worth sharing as USX carb he goes thru in video is the often scorned/misunderstood USX used on most of the larger 4 digit tractors.

    Latest project

Will get some better pics once tractors come out of hibrenation in the spring. Built this 88 for antique pulling in 4500 pound class. Still have to finish the yellow lettering on grill strip and axles , and somehow totally forgot that the tub should have been yellow under the grill, but may just...

    Big Joe

The post about the oldest cow got me to thinkin about Big Joe. He was a steer that belonged to my Dads lifelong friend Nory Munro, and was touted to be the biggest steer in the country. I believe he lived to be close to 20 and was /is buried on Norys farm. Dad used to joke that Nory thought more...

    Oliver forklift lifting trusses

Oliver forklift made quick work of putting up roof trusses. We preassembled 7 trusses on the ground this morning and lifted up as one pc. Sure beats working in the air especially in the winter time. Its a little scary how high this thing will lift, but its amazing how stable it is at what must...

    1600 transmission lube pump

A friend of mine sent me this pic of a 1600 that clearly shows a chain driven trans lube pump coming off the input shaft. I thought that lube pumps on most 4 didgits were driven off of the back end of the countershaft in transmission? I have only had covers off of 1650 and 2-70 and do not recall...

broken sleeve flange on 310 gas

Anyone seen this before? I made one pull with tractor after getting engine together and at the end of the track she started blowing coolant out of the rad then out the exhaust! Before the pull it was working fine, and made a great pull but broke the flange right off the sleeve. I cant see any...

    resistor or no resistor

I just finished putting an 310 gas into a 88 oliver. Used a new delco alternator I had on hand. ( The one that still uses the external regulator) Wired it up per the diagram for 1850 gas which didnt specify a resistor from ignition to coil, however I am wondering if it is a typo in the IT manual...

Alignment of engine to input shaft

Thought some of you Oliver guys would be interested in how I check alignment. For angular take bolt hole centers ( 25.5) divide by the dial indicator sweep and times the amount it is out and it will give you the correct shim amount to install in either the back or front. For offset simply...

    Eliminating the drilled head bolt

I have always wondered what the heck the engineers were thinking when they drilled out a head bolt to oil the rocker shaft, nessitating lower torque on 1 head bolt??? So came up with this idea. Cant see why it wont work? Going to be a tight fit between fitting and fuel tank, but pretty sure it...

    770 wheatland

Have an oppurtunity to buy a 58 or 59 770 wheatland gas that is in pieces, but for pretty much scrap price. Kind of on the fence as its going to need a complete restoration, and I am not sure I want to get into that for what I THINK is a relatively common tractor? What do you guys think is it...

    Question for Dieseltech

Hoping you can help me out with Roosa pump timing on a 310 indirect out of a 1800. ( now with 4 1/4 inch pistons but same 4 3/8 stroke) This is in a pulling tractor that turns about 3500 RPM. I broke the camshaft a year ago and since putting in another cam the darn thing does not seem to lug...
