    main bearings

    I looked at the tractor again last night. You can actually move the crank up and down by picking up on the flywheel and the belt pulley. It is not in and out play I am feeling it is up and down play. Like alot of slop in the main bearings. Can you adjust them or will I have to replace them?

    How much end play is the right amount and I will have to check the other. I tried to grab the bottom of the flywheel and try to pick up on it to see if there was any slack in the main bearings. It felt like it moved some. The knocking goes away when engine us under a load.

    1941 transmission shifter

    Can anyone tell me what keeps the shifter in the housing. I know it takes a spring and all on the top but what holds it in place and keeps it from being able to be pulled out.
