    4440 medallion question

Looks like 40 series came both ways. What year is your 4440? My 81 4640 and the 81 4440 that JD has both had the words under the logo. And all the plastic replacements have the words.

    4440 medallion question

Here’s the 2 millionth JD. 1981 4440 with 26 hours completely original. Clearly has the words John Deere under the logo. My 4640 was an 81 also. Any chance they changed the medallion between 78 and 82?

    4440 medallion question

That’s my old 4640 I sold in 2016. I’m pretty sure that was the original medallion and you can see it has the writing. But if you look at old brochures on eBay, none have the writing.

    4440 medallion question

Can anyone tell me what the proper medallion on front of a 4440 fuel tank is? Mine is missing it completely. A lot of pictures I find including a 4640 and 4040 I used to own say John Deere under the deer symbol. But when I look at original JD lterature for the 40 series, they just have the...

    4440 with 720 loader issue

I purchased this 4440 with 720 loader already installed about 3 years ago. It has the JD joystick control in the cab. The issue I'm having is sometimes the loader won't release pressure after I shut off the tractor. Like if I want to drop the bucket to the ground after I shut it off, it...

    4440 stuck tie rod

I tried that yesterday. Didn’t work. Had to do it the hard way.

    4440 stuck tie rod

I got it. Put in vise, got whole tube red and twisted with pipe wrench while pulling out at same time. Wasn’t easy, but will likely never need to do it again.

    4440 stuck tie rod

So far I've had it glowing red twice then beat with hammer and another hammer on the backside after it cooled. Still can't get it to budge. What's next? I'm thinking take it off, put in vice, heat glowing red and try turning with pipe wrench?

    4440 stuck tie rod

Haven’t heated it red yet. Was going to try that this morning. My only concern was heat damage to the tie rod end. But I’ll cover that with a wet towel before I start. Thanks for your suggestions.

    4440 stuck tie rod

I’m working on moving the wheels out from 30” to 38” on a 4440. I’m down to the last front wheel, left side tie rod. It’s stuck all the way in. So far I’ve tried heat, banging and the block of wood between the frame and steering arm trick. Nothing works so far. The right side came apart easy...

    4440 Powershift Park Cable

    Thank you for the help.

    4440 Powershift Park Cable

I pulled the cable loose on the transmission end. It’s not tight once you take the bend out of it. And the transmission park lever rotates freely by hand so it looks like the cable is the issue.

    4440 Powershift Park Cable

Is that something that's out in the open that I can check?

    4440 Powershift Park Cable

I have a 79 4440 Powershift. Shifts great except it's extremely hard to get in and out of park. I have tried lubing the cable. Is it for sure the cable or is there anything else I should check first?

    4440 wedge beater pipe

I have a 4440 with the larger diameter axles and the heavy cast centers. I need to move the frozen wheels out. I used to have a wedge beater pipe for my 4640 that I made. It’s gone and I need to make one for this 4440. Does anyone know the pipe size I need? Looks like schedule 80 4” is 4.5” OD...

    4440 AC compressor

I jumped the clutch and added freon. Got it cooling decent and now the clutch stays engaged with the switch on. So there must be a 2nd low pressure switch somewhere. Thing that was weird is low side showed a vacuum when I started. Signs of a bad expansion valve if memory serves me correct.

    4440 AC compressor

It has the low pressure switch on the compressor. What I'm saying is the hot wire to the switch doesn't get hot like it should. Usually you can just jump the switch. I can engage the compressor clutch by jumping a hot from the starter to the clutch. I guess I'll go ahead and charge it that...

    4440 AC compressor

Bought this 4440 in January. Was told AC works great. Now its hot enough to need it and of course it doesnt work. Has been converted to a Sanden compressor and R134 by previous owner. Clutch wont engage, so I tried jumping it. Figured out theres no power to the yellow hot wire. I was able to...
