Was using my late model 40S with a post hole digger. Procedure was to position tractor/auger over hole spot,
disengage tranny, engage PTO, dig hole, disengage PTO, engage tranny to more to next hole. Working fine.
And then... the PTO engagement lever would not move to engage PTO. Not even a little - against a hard stop.
Tried clutching/declutching ....... shifted into all gears ...... back to neutral ...... still no movement.
Then I stopped the tractor - restarted it - and the PTO would engage normally.
Kept digging holes - abut 1 in 3 tries the PTO would not engage - turn the 40S off and on and it would engage.
I have the SM and the PC. Looking at the pictures I can't guess what is not working as designed.
Anybody got a guess as to what is wrong? Can I get to the PTO shift fork and coupling through the rear cover plate?
