641 Starter

This may sound silly to some but before spending a lot of money I need to ask this. I have a Ford 641 6-volt 4 cyl tractor. I need to replace the starter and I see a lot of 2n and 8n on different sites. My question is the starter for a 2n or 8n the same as the one on my 641?

8/9Ns are not the same. 600,800s early 2000 and 4000s gas all wear the same starter

Nope the N series starter is mounted by way of the housing bolts and the start on the 600/601 series is a flange mount type so no they will not work in place of each other

You can buy the 600-2000 starters just as cheap as the 8/9 N ones at alot of the same places.N Complete in Indiana sells them.
