For Twenty years I stayed busy doing several 1370 rearend jobs every year. The nickname 1370 Rod was started by customers visiting the shop and always seen me working on 1370's years ago. 12+1570's and 23+2590's required similar repairs but I fixed more 13's than anything, hands down. Broken C2-C3 bolts, ring+pinion's, differential cages broken and worn out, diff. thrust washers gone, final drive sun gears worn and chipped with damaged plant. gears, axle housing and trans housings broken because of sun gear tooth breakage. Ah the good old days. Rarely do I see those kinds of failures nowadays simply because these good ole workhorses are not the main tillage tractor anymore. In the past 2 years I have repaired my 1270, a 1370 and this 1570 all with multiple failures occurring leading to some hefty repair bills. This tractor with 7500 hrs had been the main horse for all its years and the rearend had never been touched. I fear these things would need replacing before it was ever taken apart. Broken bolts was it reason to tear into it, sun shaft, ring and pinion, sun gears and diff. thrust washers were found later. This owner was lucky because the diff cage was still good even with thrust washers gone and the LH final drive sun gear had lost huge chunks easily capable of cracking axle housing and trans case. I know the days of this kind of repairs are numbered as these tractors are retired from full time duty and owners simply not willing to invest large dollars in tractors of this age. But the few I fix will always remind me of the 70's and 80's when those jobs bought a lot of groceries for us repair guys. Rod.
