Sean, minor point on the gauges, they are not magnetic, they are bi-metal gauges that operate on a heating principle, not a
magnetic one. A true magnetic gauge pointer generally remains in place or sometimes floats around after you shut the key off.
This correction does not change the premise of your post, and that is a bi-metal gauge should return to full left when the key
is switched off.
