Blue streak points

Did you contact the seller about the error? They may have the right ones, but the set you got was mixed in (the boxes are likely identical other than the part number), and no attention was paid to the part number when they stuffed them in a package to ship. Just like you apparently didn't notice the mistake when you received them. I doubt it was an intentional attempt to defraud.

Glad to hear you have it running now.

Or, all of the parts in the warehouse might have been wrong. I've had that happen with bearings. The store ordered four times before boxes showed up with the right part. All boxes were marked the same, but most boxes had the wrong part in them. Either way it's worth contacting the seller.

The seller has already returned my payment. He didn't ask for the wrong set back but I emailed him that if he would give me an address, I would return the set to him. Haven't heard from him yet.

I have had that type thing happen a few times over the years, and it is frustrating. Always got a refund or the correct item in the end. Generally they don't ask for the wrong item back, in my experience. That sounds like good seller, they made a mistake and refunded your money. It's not like you were ripped off, you really aren't out anything beyond not having the set of points you wanted. It wouldn't have hurt to include that info before, just my opinion.

What do you mean, it wouldn't have hurt to include that info before? What info? If you mean that I got a refund, it just happened.

I apologize for that statement, since you say you just got the refund.

To be clear, I was just going to forget about it then when I checked his ad again on Ebay, it still listed the correct part number so I thought I should contact him that either his ad was wrong or it was just a case of sending the wrong part. I contacted him yesterday and he responded the same day saying he had refunded my payment. I sent him another email asking him for an address so I could return the point set and he sent me his address today so I will return the parts to him.

He refunded my payment immediately and didn't ask me to return the points so I don't see why he should be out the cost of that set. Treat people right and they will respond in kind.

The red fuzzy thing is a felt wiper that is impregnated with a silicon based distributor cam lubricant. Standard motor products SL-2 is what you are supposed to use if the wiper is dried out. As they came back in the day, you would just clean the distributor cam and intall the points. That wiper would take care of the lubrication. It prevented the problem of folks using too much lube which could contaminate the contacts, or not using any which could cause premature wear of the rubbing block.
In years past I found it had too much lube which would travel along the arm to the points & spoil them with carbon. I use a shop towel and squeeze out the extra. Points last much longer.

Would FD8081 points work on my 3 cylinder?
