Hello,
I have a '55 600 (12v neg ground conversion) with the Pertronix round can sidemount EI kit installed with a new wiring harness (all from the YT site) a couple years back. Worked fine until yesterday.
Tractor was idling while I was lining up a three point carryall behind it. It shut off like it does with the ignition switch, only no one was nearby.
Shut off the ignition, checked fuel flow through the carb, then cranked it again and checked for spark. No spark. Also the ammeter usually twitches when I turn the key, nothing now.
So I went back to the house for a VM and some jumper wire. I jumpered the ignition switch - it works fine. I have 12v all the way down the little brown wire to the round can coil. Battery seems fully charged and the starter cranks great. Not sure what to check next.
This tractor has worn bushings in the distributor, and with the slop it was tough to keep the points gap set. The EI kit pretty much took care of that problem. Until now.
The Pertronix website mostly gives troubleshooting instructions for installation, not failures after installation. Any suggestions?
thanks,
Doug in east TN
