Sorry guys about last message. My tractor serial# is 5K 5B then K145 then B81270. The lady I bought it from told me it was a ford 3000 unsure of the year.It is diesel 3cyl has a six speed tranny and a tranny hand brake. The fenders cover top of tire round and connect to floor board.Front grill has opening for headlights. The other tractor I'm looking at has 3cyl diesel and aneight speed tranny and says it is a 1967 ford 3000. But the serial numbers from the engine on the right side according to Ford manual FO31 says that an engine starting with LD##### is from a Ford 2000. Whose right because both tractors start with the same engine serial #. His model and serial #s are not legible at all.His does not have tranny hand brake and his has the flat front grill where as mine is the offset top with the rounded bottom front wire mesh where the headlights go.PUZZLED please help! ROBERT, Thank you all!

The one with the hand brake and lights in the grill is a British model... the different grills represent early (rounded, offset - '65 to mid '68) and late (flat - mid '68 to '75) series.

Thank you, but is mine a 3000 or a 2000 and is his a 3000 or 2000? And what about horse power.30-35 or 35-40?

5k5b is a date code of oct 5 1965

B81270 is a basildon ( british) serial number..

the model id you need begins with either a 2/3 or a B/C and is in the same area on the bellhousing.

I understand and I've been up and down my tractor and the other tractor I am going to buy. The only numbers visible are on the engine bottom right center LD##### L being 2000 and D being diesel then numbers. According to Ford manual FO31 this represents a ford 2000 engine. If it started with a N then it would be 3000. The L represents 2000 before 7-20-68. I would believe then that they are both Ford 2000 1965-1968 models.

Did you say the serial # on the flat spot behind the starter is unreadable?
Here is a simple way to tell the difference between the 2000 and 3000.
The axle housings are different. The cross section of the axle housing (trumpet) on a 2000 is round. On a 3000 it is square.

The serial # on the ford I am going to buy is unreadable. The axles are square. That is what I thought as per the manual.I suppose then they are 3000 fords. But what of the engine serial #. Also if I am not mistaken the 3000 came out with the six speed and not the 2000. Right or wrong.

Are you sure about those housings? I had an English tractor, round housings, 6 speed, badged as a 2000.

Dunno about the 6 speed tranny only on the 3000. Others may know. Doesn't matter what the engine # says. Engines got changed out with new/rebuilt blocks. What exactly is it that you are trying to determine? A 3000 isn't worth much more than a 2000. It's the options that either tractor could have had that will determine value.

According to the FO31 manual... early 2/3000 could both be had with a 4 speed, 4 speed + over/under (thru '70), 8-speed, or SOS. Late 2/3000's could have the 4-speed, 6-speed, 8-speed, or SOS.

I think the 2000/Super Dexta had a 6-speed and round housings. That combo should have been possable on late 3-cylinder 2000's also.
