Yesterday I attended the Covey Trust farm auction held NW of Moran,KS..The 1968 Miss America Debra Barnes was from Moran and her Dad was the John Deere dealer there..The wind was blowing a gale when I left home and it got worse when I got west of Ft Scott,KS..It had to be over 50 mph at times and it was hard to hold the Ford Ranger on the road...It rained a little just as I got to the sale...The wind continued blowing all day long from 25 to over 40 miles per hour at times...A gust almost blew the auctioneer down when he was selling from the top of a trailer..We were supposed to get severe weather in the evening but it never happened..We did get .65 of rain early this morning..On Thursday afternoon with a 20% chance we got 1 inch of much needed rain...Just south of me a 30 mile long strip got 2-3 of rain with hail....The hail was so deep 15 miles southeast of me that snow plows had to get it off Hwy 97...It was 8-10 deep along with a 3 inch rain in 1 hour...It tore up some Amish green houses.

This was a huge sale with 4 large trailer loads of stuff and lots of stuff on the ground...There were so many wrenches, sockets-etc that it took 2 hours to sell one trailer...They should have ran 2 rings..The sale finally got over at site one around 5 PM and we went 3 miles northeast to site 2 which got done at 6 PM.

In 2009 I took lots of pictures of the old cement plant..You can no longer get in there..Heres some large silos...After the plant closed I can remember it being used as a grain elevator in the 1970's.

Looking north down Main Street in the famous Kansas ghost town of Neosho Falls .....Its hard to believe that at one time it had 1200 residents and 3 blocks of business buildings..The record July 13,1951 flood ruined this town...The water got as deep as 16 ft on Main Street...It had rained 9-10 inches in June of 1951..Then from July 9-12th,1951 lots of eastern Kansas got 16-19 inches of rain...After the flood most business owners just left...For many years after the buildings stood there with the flood damaged inventory until they all finally fell down..The last ones went down around 2010.

An old postcard in the early days of Neosho Falls.

I learned the hard way at Moran last year. If had went rite from the West instead of left would have saved bunch of time and a few miles. The bridge in town needed something done to it for years. Like the side trip pic you post. Been thru some of them but no pic.

Another thank you to you which is well deserved. I just put away my Kansas map after finishing my latest geography lesson!

Hey there, we got the wind up here at Montrose too, but we finally got .4 last night, this morning.
I need to put in an order for you to be an order buyer for me. That trailer was a buy, but that disc was a steal!
Thanks for sharing your pictures
I have been through some of that area delivering Millwork.
Didn't know what that plant was instead of a grain elevator.
Thanks for the history. GG, Wes
