Since those are just an updated version of the 574 I would look into how dirty the front oil cooler is, at the radiator also blow or wash out the engine radiator. Those models didn't have any to much cooling to begin with. Radiators were marginal and the oil cooler is the same way. As for your valve I would need to see it and the set up to tell much about it.
 
It may help us if you go into the online diagrams I
linked and find the valve you are talking about, then
describe it as an example ..part 2 in subsection x of
the hydraulic section.. In general spools in hydraulic
valve bodies should move freely. Usually hydraulic
pressure is acting on the surfaces of the spools called
..lands.. then the pressure is counter acted by a spring
or hydraulic pressure opposing it on a land on the
opposite side. Not sure if that makes any sense if you
do not understand how hydraulics work.
