Re: What do we think of a MF 50? Can I put power steer

On the Fergusons, the forerunner of Massey Ferguson, of that era, power steering was available on the Deluxe model, and was also a dealer installed option.

It involved changing out the entire steering gear, and adding a pump to the engine.

Here's the big "IF", Does the engine have the blank off cover for the pump mount? If there is no blank, then a belt drive pump would have to be somehow mounted. Not much room to work with, but I suppose it could be done.

About the only practical affordable way would be to find a donor tractor to get the parts. If you find one it would be good to go through the steering gear and inspect the internals, and definitely replace the seals and hoses. They were leak prone.

Even with power steering, the front end is not really intended for much loader work. But for light use and being aware of it's limitations, it will work.
