Well, the 440 has been locking into reverse more frequently. Real pain in the butt to work the shift cover off when the rail is in the tranny web. I took the cover off this morning to check things out. Low and behold someone has had it apart before (wink) The cover had been replaced and apparently came off a tractor with shuttle trany, as the R was ground off the top of the cover. Anyway, I looked it over, and whomever reassembled the shifting forks had put the stop bushing on the wrong side of the reverse fork. I removed the setscrew on the fork and pushed the rail forward enough to remove fork and reinstall the bushing on the front side of the fork to keep it from over shifting and letting the lever slip past. 5 min fix, to cure the problem. No more cussing at it in the woods when I forgot to be careful shifting.
