9N Front mount no spark problem

Where did we leave off with this yesterday, Bruce(VA) and old? I pulled the distributor and ran a $1.00 bill through the points about 10 times. old said that it might take more than this to clean the coating off. Do I need to use something else? And Bruce(VA) told me to check voltage on my test...

9N Front mount no spark problem

I dressed the points with a $1.00 bill (per Dell's previous posts) and this made no difference. Will try Bruce"s latest suggestion as soon as possible.

9N Front mount no spark problem

Yes, positive ground 6 volts. Brand new distributor ordered from this site, as a matter of fact.

9N Front mount no spark problem

old, I ran a test lead from the negative post to the coil and pulled the #2 and #3 plugs and there is no spark. I wonder if I could have something connected wrong at the resistor block. I thought I labeled everything correctly when I took the wiring off (I was going to install a new wiring...

9N Front mount no spark problem

When I started this project I had voltage to top of coil. Now, putting pos lead on engine and neg lead on coil I get no reading with key on.

9N Front mount no spark problem

Brand new battery. Charged overnight. No start. Fuel good flow out of bottom of carb. Pulled 2 and 3 plug, grounded to head, turned over, no spark. Before new battery purchase, performed continuity test on coil/points, everything checked out there.

9N Front mount no spark problem

Yes, I have charged the battery but I must admit it is a weak battery. I always charge it before attempting to start (since I have had this problem) but I know it has a bad cell per the hydrometer. I figured after charging, since the engine turns over good, that it would be good enough to...

9N Front mount no spark problem

A few recent posts regarding this problem. New plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor (rotor was reinstalled), points, condenser. Removed coil and distributor and performed continuity testing per Bruce's advice. Everything checked out. Evidently has to be bad battery at this point?

Tried old's advice on 9N electric issue

I tried the advice of old where I removed the coil wire, turned ignition switch on and touched coil terminal to see if it would spark. Nothing. Kept moving tractor (in 3rd gear) forward for about 1/6 of a fan blade turn. No spark. Did this for about 1 complete fan blade revolution and never did...

    9N Front mount won't start

Yesterday many good replies on my 9N front mount no spark situation. I have battery voltage to top of coil. How do I check with points open and closed? If I have battery voltage at top of coil then points must be open, and if I rock backward or forward in gear that will close the points and cut...

    9N Front mount won't start

Thanks to all who responded. Will purchase test lamp and test per Soundguy's suggestion and will post back results.

    9N Front mount won't start

Just pulled #2 and #4 plugs, grounded to head and turned engine over and did not see any spark. Have recently put in new plug wires and Autolite 437 plugs and NAPA points. How do I go about systematically tracing the electricity flow to determine where the problem lies? Probably screwed...

    9N Starter problem (yesterday post)

9N front mount. Had posts yesterday, all very helpful. Ended up removing starter and bench tested. Cannot get to turn over by jumping to terminal and ground. At this point should a repair be attempted or should I purchase a refurbished starter? Interestingly, old recommended taking to auto...

    Starter problem

Cleaned up ground point and remounted. Jumped with 12V again and nothing, so going to remove starter and take it in. Do I need to remove drain cock in block to remove? Seemed like when I had the bolts loose and pulled back starter would not completely dismount.
