Hey All-

So We have had a very wet spring/early summer, and I was trying to get something done a little too fast after the rain and have sunk my tractor pretty good.

I buried it more trying to get unstuck. This is a 2 wheel drive Ford 4500, and i have a hay spear on the loader right now.

I have tried the trick attaching logs to the wheels like a paddle and all I have managed to do is dig out a deeper hole with those.

Im feeling like I am at the point where I don't have any other ideas and am going to need to call someone for help.

What kind of person do I call to pull my tractor out of the pasture?

My grandpa could have gotten you out real quick. Just hitch up the mule team and either half or the whole tractor would be out before you knew it.

man that really sucks you got your tractor stuck like that. id see if any neighbors have a big 4wd tractor that could maybe pull you out. chains and straps help a ton, just gotta be careful and not yank too hard.

Snug up the chain/strap then apply the power. None of that ripping and tearing rough stuff.

Sounds like u have no experience getting a tractor unstuck. When it’s stuck it’s stuck do not dig it down to make things harder. Can’t see how bad your stuck either. Now u need a tractor at least 2 times bigger or a 4 wheel drive or even a crawler. Plus is there hard ground close cause if it’s all swamp then it’s a waiting game. Also use good high rated nylon straps. Or a 2 inch tow rope. A chain is useless when pulling something stuck out. U need a couple ft of slack then pour the coal to her. And also pull it out from the back the same way it went in. And be on your tractor and have it in reverse to help out. The longer the cable or strap the bigger the tractor u need. So check your neighbours to see if they have a 4x4 tractor.

Never seen anyone hurt doing that, but know 2 that came so close neither them or I will ever use a strap. YouTube has many videos that show why straps are very dangerous.

Check with a local contractor with a crawler or fair-sized excavator, if you don't have a neighbor nearby with a large tractor as has been suggested. You have tried the logs to the wheels trick and went deeper you say. You can keep trying other ideas and mess with it for a long time or bite the bullet now and get the right help to get it out. JMHO

I got stuck, but it was only a little Ford N with a rotary cutter on back, and had solid ground no too far away. I didn't bury to the belly, I knew I wasn't driving out, even without the implement attached.

Have a neighbor with a larger 4WD tractor. We un-hitched the mower and hooked up logging chains, came out pretty easy. Then dragged out the cutter.

IMHO get a BIGGER piece of equipment, or two in tandem, to pull it out.

You never EVER see professional recovery crews yanking on stuff.

If you have to yank on something you probably don’t have enough weight or proper rigging in the first place.

neighbor with at least an MFWD somebody with an 8000 John Deere or competitors equivalent will pop you right out assuming there’s nothing goofy in the way and you aren’t backed in somewhere and even if pulling from the front a little bit of even power applied gently will pop you right out. A picture would be worth a thousand words that’s usually the requisite to get help around here. Not to make fun of in any way that’s not all ready been done but we always figured if something stupid was done we would all run to help not giving too much grief as long as a you take a picture then we don’t have to snap one ourselves and waste time while we are there all helping. Plus if you are sitting some way we can’t imagine the ONE AND ONLY time have been stuck was in my row crop sprayer hung up on a big rock Pile I didn’t see in somewhere I should have had the common sense not to go. That took a tow truck backed down into the field to lift me more or less carefully off it. I expect you just need a little pull and didn’t do as bad as me.

If there is something solid like a big tree nearby, get all the chains to hook it as short as possible. then hook another tractor or 4 wheeler to the middle & pull side ways. You may have to shorten the chain & do it again and again. I pulled a JD 70 backwards with my Farmall B when we were trying to move a trailor house.

Tie off to a big tree and wind the ,cable,strap,chain up on the axle or use a winch coma long or even a block and tackle with enough pulleys and big enough rope you can pull it out or use a smaller tractor to pull it out that way. You will need big pulleys with a bigger rope or cable to do it. Even a backhoe with a long chain hooked to the hoe and then he just sets and pulls with the hoe, will pull easier than jerking and pulling on it with bigger tractors with less stress on things.

Your best bet is to find a neighbor who has a big piece of equipment and is willing to help. Depending on the distance to solid ground, you may need to make up a tow cable long enough to reach the machine. Or it might be possible to get it out with a winch mounted on a vehicle, if the vehicle is heavy enough.

If you can't find a neighbor who is willing and able to help, and the local towing companies aren't able to do anything, then call an earthmoving contractor. This is a routine problem for them, and they'll have no problem getting your tractor out...for a price.

Check out Yankum Tow ropes they are made to be yanked on as they stretch

The 2½T CCKW had a bolt-on wheel winch option for just that purpose. An astute operator could often winch himself out of a lot of bad situations.

If he has an anchor point such as a sideways vehicle, tree, deadman, etc., he can always pass his chain/strap under the tractor and hook it to his front bucket/spear and use the bucket lift cylinders to pull him out backwards as he raises his bucket. To pull himself out forward he can put a snatch block on front bumper or run his chain/strap under the front axle or other point on the tractor and raise the front bucket to pull himself forward. Have to reconnect every time for the distance the bucket can go up.

that is true! but people are not reading what i am posting. i said "rated slings." and did not say to take a run at it. it was tighten up slowly till you have a slight bit of slack meaning so the sling is barely touching the ground which is about 2 feet of slack, then giver. its the sling shot effect u want . and no chains are allowed on any drilling rig location for hoisting or pulling stuck stuff. its all rated cables or slings for the job. you guys make it appear like i know nothing, and pretty much have to draw a picture with the proof. and also recovery units dont have to yank as they have all necessary proper rated equipment, and their in that business. i am always preaching safety . this is just a little stuck farm tractor. use some sense. and if we saw this stuck tractor would make things easier. like is it up to the seat or just the drawbar and how much of a mud hole ?

Clearly you need another tractor. One to use, and one to pull it out when you get stuck.

At the end of the day with tractors it is always, little is good, more is better.
