Yesterday I and a friend attended a large estate sale northeast of McCune,Kansas..It was cloudy for lots of the sale and the temp was around 60 degrees which is pretty cool for this time of the year.....There were 17 Oliver tractors and crawlers plus 17 Oliver plows...Sadly,the scrap man got all of the plows and some of the tractors.

Its going to take 5 posts to get all the pictures and results on here...Several of the pictures aren't too good..There was a pretty good crowd and they ran out of food long before the sale was over.

Falling Spring in south central Missouri which was 1 of 5 springs (others were Round,Alley,Blue,Big) that we visited last Thursday...Its a 3 mile drive off a hiway to the middle of nowhere for this one which we had never seen before....In some places the road is barely wide enough for a car..After we left there we drove a few miles south down to Greer Spring which flows over 200 million gallons per day..Just as I was ready for the 1 mile hike there at 4 PM the heavens opened up and that was it...Hadnt seen it since 1984..I will try again next year plus go to another Blue Spring plus Mammoth Spring...We go to West Plains,MO every May to put flowers on my wifes families graves...This year we buried my late MIL's (1933-2021) ashes as was her wish...RIP Ina..She would have been 88 tomorrow.

This sale was so huge that I could have put 100 more pictures on here but 50 is enough..I may go to a huge sale tomorrow that starts at 8 AM.

Yes,most of the Olivers were cheap..One buyer (not a collector) got the 1750,1800's,1900,and 1950-T...We are fastly running out of buyers in this area..Us collectors in this area are all getting old and theres very few younger ones to replace us....

There was a decent Oliver 1855 diesel there that the family kept..There used to be a big Oliver dealer at Girard,KS not that far away from the sale.
cvphoto90204.jpg

Yes,I brought the trailer and jinxed myself on getting the 101.......I have a 1938 101 Massey that is 30 or so serial numbers lower than the one on the sale...However,it was
made in to a puller many years before I bought it...Its a long ways from being original but will have to do..

That 1800 LP looks like a hybrid. It's got the A Series grill and a few other characteristics, but B or C Series hood sides. I'd like to find an 1800A gas for that price, it'd be my next project.

Can't believe there could be so many non running tractors at one guys auction. Many of them looked physically in reasonable shape. Who knows why they weren't running but I got to think some of them were fixable for anybody looking for an older Oliver.

Thanks for posting the pictures and price always nice to see what things bring in your area compared to my.

Great report as usual, very thorough. I probably would have jumped in on the bidding for the Mack and the Case backhoe. At those prices I might have ended up with one. Gotta be careful.

Was this a consignment sale? Seems like an awful lot of old iron to come out of one place.

This was one mans collection...He passed 2 years ago..This isn't all that he had...Theres another farm about 3 miles away with more stuff, maybe a dozen tractors..

Thanks 1206--You get all the good sales in your state! Most of the Oliver tractors were CHEAP--But the plows for scrap were on the high side. I bought a 6 bottom semi-mount pipe plow off of Big Iron the other day for $200. I don't see how the junker can make any money. Oh well--See Ya---Tee
cvphoto90222.jpg

Have a half dozen of these pipe plows--Don't know why--Now I have to go get it!

Lots of these tractors would have ran with just a little work....The owner worked and lived almost 100 miles away and passed in 2018 at age 64...If I dont get busy my auction will have more non runners than this one..

Thats a nice looking Oliver 6 bottom pipe plow..Large pipe ones are pretty rare in my area because most people back in those days only farmed 160-320 acres..I can remember that our local Oliver dealer only sold 2-3 new 1800's (no 1900's)before he went out of business...In 1964 a close neighbor bought a new 1850 Oliver gas with a 6 bottom square beam plow from the Oliver dealer at Rich Hill,MO....In 1965 it turned in to a new 1850 diesel with a 5 bottom plow..Before that they farmed about 800 acres with a Super 88 Oliver diesel and a 400 Case diesel..

The junkers in east Kansas pay huge prices for scrap at farm sales...You haul it to them and they wont give half as much.

Everyone, thanks for all the kind comments..At 6 AM I'm off to another estate sale with 4 tractors...

when I bought my Oliver plow last winter there was also a pipe plow and it went about 3 time as much as the regular 6 bottom plow I bought. I was not going to spend that much money to plow so my buddy could find arrowheads!

Thanks, only sale I went to out there was in eastern KS when I was seeing a girl in the KC area. We drove out to a well-drilling company that was selling off a few hundred old vehicles they'd collected over the years. Day was windy with dust blowing and some interesting old cars and trucks were going cheap. Often buyers just took off the parts they wanted and left the hulk there to be scrapped. Name of the outfit might have been Billings, was quite a few years ago.
