Shipping best way

I am in need of shipping a Ford 8N tractor from Pennsylvania to Michigan
what would be the best way ???
thoughts from any one
I dont have a trailer

I used u ship once and had good luck with them. Someone recommended them to me that also had used them.

You might rent a trailer. Or con a buddy with a truck and trailer to go on a 'road trip'. I did that with a JD 95 combine. Hauled it 600 miles.I paid all expences(meals/motel/fuel). Later paid him a couple hudred or so dollars cash. We had a blast.A simple light duty tandem axle utility/car hauler and a half ton pickup can easily handle an 8N.

I once rented a u-haul car trailer to haul a farmall F-20 from Pennsylvania to New Hampshire. No problems.

Done that. Dont commit to the first price they give you. They usually come down after a decline.

Fly there and then rent a U-Haul or Penske box truck.
12 or 16 foot box truck should work.
If you have to state what for, moving household stuff home.

How do you get the tractor into the U-Haul truck? It's not like you can put 8' long ramps in your carry-on luggage.

Not sure you really want to trust a restored tractor to a janky pile of planks and cinder blocks.

That could be a problem. you say. I agree it could be.

Unless your smart enough to think about how to get it in and out before you arrive in PA.

Then maybe you get with the seller to see if there is a loading dock or a ramp or another appropriate ditch, etc.

Sometimes you gotta do some research on your part without the need to do so.

And I am betting that fusion1 is a might smart person that can do just that.

Sheesh, it ain't as hard as you think.

If you own a 3/4 ton or heavier pickup, I think renting a trailer would be the way to go. I assume you have some experience towing in the mountains; if not bring along a buddy who does.

I rented a car hauler from a fellow in Auburn Hills, MI that would easily handle an 8N. A friend of mine used a trailer from the same outfit to haul an AC tractor (I forget the model). These trailers have electric brakes, BTW.

Some rental companies won't rent a trailer if you are hauling farm equipment; you might have to tell them you are hauling something else.

U ship nothing like cutting your own throat with your own bloody knife. I have watched some of those bidding deals. I bid on one then after everybody started price cutting I let somebody else haul it for a loss. Just drive it would only take a week and you could have a lot of fun watching the world go by as you did it. Might be a wet spell some times. Not cold though could have someone check in with you so as to not have break downs and no help. I've heard of people do similar for not as many miles before.

You could hire a rollback. Load the
tractor on the rollback then off load
it into to box truck. Or try to find
a ramp nearby. Not that hard to
figure out.

That works until you have an accident, even if it is the fault of someone else. You might (emphasis on might) get stuck with damage or liability and no insurance.

XPO or any other LTL carrier will haul it. You need to take it to a loading dock, they will drive it on, and drive it off.

U-haul has changed their policy I believe, and they will accept a tractor as the answer to what you are hauling.

Their trailers are not open flat decks, though. There is a very limited tread width that will fit on the trailer, and they're open in the middle so narrow front tractors are a challenge.

I tried U-ship twice and got nothing but visions of that show "Shipping Wars" where a guy shows up to haul my 7+ ton International 1586 with a 3/4 ton van and an enclosed box trailer.

No sooner than I had posted the request, I would be inundated with that generic "We have trucks in your area ready and waiting to haul your load..." Bull Schmidt. They had no idea what I wanted hauled.

One time I got someone to haul it through the hauling schedule on this site. The other guy saw my ad on U-ship before I got fed up and took it down, recognized the name from his milk truck driving days (we were on his route) and reached out.
