    amp gage shows discharge

Farmall 400 was a positive ground system with a 12 volt generator. I changed it to negative ground. Polarized the system and turned the key and it started but died as soon as the key returned to the run position. I removed the dash and swapped the wires on the amp gage from one terminal to the...

    400 PTO failure

With the handle forward, the brake holds it in the stopped position. Release the brake and the pto starts rotating. In the full on position it doesn't speed up at all. Even at idle the shaft should be rotating faster. I don't feel any resistance or tension applied when the handle is moved into...

    F 20 magneto timing

In order to get the tractor started, I have to turn the crank from the bottom as fast as I can to at least the 3 o'clock position. Any less than that and it is a complete waste of time and effort. It runs very well after it is started. Would this indicate that when the mag. was reinstalled, that...

    F 20 starter problem

It is my opinion that the mica between the commutator segments needs to be reduced. How can I do this and what tool should I use? TY SDE

delco starter rebuild for my 400

Many years ago Al Watts rebuilt a starter for me. He mention taking a shim out when he put it back together. I have ordered a rebuild kit for another 400. Is there an amount of desired free play to be measured during re-assembly? TY SDE

    adding a 3pt to my 400

I bought a 5 ft snow blower and wish to use it on a 400. Can I attach 2 brackets to the sides of the center section of the rear end using the threaded holes that are already there? The arms would then attach to those brackets. Or do I need to make brackets that will allow me to attach the arms...

    farmall 400 lifter issue

I bought a tractor with a stuck engine. I got it freed up and when reassembling it, I noticed that 2 push rods are about .3 higher than the other pushrods that are in the same orientation. Looking down into the lifter, it appears that they have a steel ball laying in the bottom of the lifter...

humidifier quit -Not going to be this easy

I thought my son may have turned it off. He said no. I played with all the setting and the cord and it wouldn't work. Today I rolled it into the kitchen and plugged it into a different outlet and it works. Evidently when I rolled it across the uneven floor it reset the brushes in the motor...

    flaring brake lines

I can't help myself, I have to do it, wait for it. I don't seem to have the flare for making brake lines. I'm bad. When I am finished with the second flare and I look at it while it is still in the clamp, it isn't symmetrical. When I took the last one out of the clamp and held it up in front of...

buying a replacement carb. for a generator

It is an 11 hp B&S engine on a Coleman 5000 generator. Is there a number on the carb. to reference or is it the one on the engine? What is this device on the side of the carburetor? There is a wire that is hanging loose that has a connector on it. Where should that go? Then there is the broken...

    jumper pack dead battery replacement

I entered the 12v-17ah into the google line and got a bunch of battery options. Some are 18 ah and some up to 22ah. Are they all going to be the same size and still fit into the jumper pack case? I assume that 12 volts is 12 volts and so the charger will still work on all of the 12 volt...

    KISS--- fixed my problem-Hyundai update

    snow blower rpm question

The first time I started my 8 hp Simplicity it ran at a very high rpm. I started blowing snow and the load on the engine brought the rpm down. The engine stopped after about thirty yards. The problem was the gas cap wasn't venting and I would run out of gas. I brought the cap into the house...

    recovering the check engine codes-oops

I hauled a dead 05 Hyundai Tucson home last night. I unhooked the battery and charged it. I hauled it to town and checked for the codes, but unhooking the battery has dropped the codes from its memory. Can they be recovered? It started to misfire while we were driving and we parked in a...

Checking coolant Ph with a multi meter

I suggest looking it up on you tube, but set the meter on 20 DC volts. Put the positive lead to a ground and the negative into the cold coolant. Below .05 is good and anything over .07 indicates the the coolant needs to be replaced.

how to check for a short circuit in a motor?

I used my cheap voltmeter. I set it to ohms on the 2000 range. One probe on the black wire and the other probe on the white wire. It read 001. I then did the same check on my electric hand drill. It never moved from the 1. I am going to assume that the motor was shorted out. It was on a table...

    BUYING A USED WELDER

My P&H ac welder has upset me one too many times. It has a rotary dial and it is difficult to get the right amps to get a good weld. I want to get a replacement, when one shows up on an auction. Is it safe to assume that an old stick welder is going to work as it should and it is being sold...

    lawn mower tire tubes

Tire has a leak. I broke it down and I could not see the hole on the inside of the tire, but I could see it on the thread bar. So I bought a 15-6-6 tube. As I was attempting to put it in the tire, it occurred to me that I should have bought a tube for an 8 inch tire. It held air for a day and I...
