Tried plowing yesterday...wow, it's been a while, LOL!

I've got 2 AR's...an unstyled '49, and a styled '50. I've picked up a JD 4D(?) on steel and a restored 44 on rubber. Had to make one new lever and repair the other one on the 4. Got it back together yesterday and just couldn't help myself...had to try it out. Problem is, here in Central Ne...

    Styled AR powr-trol pump?

I recently got a '50 styled AR. Just got the Operators manual for it. It states that to operate the powr-trol pump, that you engage the lever while turning the engine over with the starter. So, basically if you want the pump running, you have to engage it before you start the tractor?? Can't...

    Brakes on '50 AR?

Just picked up a 1950 AR to go with my '49. Where the '49 only has the one brake, the '50 has wheel brakes. Both will immediately lock up the rear wheel(s) and the left one sticks in place and has to be pulled back up. I've got an owners manual coming and looking at parts manuals to get so I can...

    Ferguson TO-30 Belt pulley adaptor?

A local ad lists a belt pulley adapter for a Ferguson TO-30 for sale. Seller said he thought it would fit a TO-20 also. Didn't know anything about it so I started looking for information. Everything I've seen so far only references a "pulley adapter for a TO-20". Nothing about a 30. These WILL...

    JD plow? Size?

Can someone identify what model plow this is? Bought it to put behind my '49 AR. Just bought it, then found a #44 on rubber that's been restored that I might bid on at a local consignment sale. Only paid $105 out the door on the online sale so thought I did pretty good. I'm sure the 44 will go...

    Need AR throttle adjustment help

I've read a bit about the throttle adjustment on an AR. But I really don't understand how the throttle system works. I push the throttle forward to get full throttle, the engine speeds up, but here's where I lose it. I'm used to a throttle normally hitting a stop...that's it, no more. But on the...

    AR oil pump?

I've got a '49 AR (unstyled) that's seemed to have developed a good amount of oil leaks underneath around the oil pump area. I'd like to replace the oil pump gaskets. I've drained the engine oil and got a new filter and rubber ring for the filter cover and have the 2 lower gaskets for the oil...

    AR steering adjustment?

My '49 AR has quite a bit of steering play in it. I've got about 60 degrees of free turning before the wheel linkage starts turning the wheels. Is there any way to adjust some play out of the linkage or do you think I'm going to have go deep into it and start replacing gears?

    "Canadian" spoke rear rims?

Looking at a '37 AR for sale. Stated to have "Canadian spoke rear wheels". Is there any thing significant about these, or what can you tell me about them?

    AR service brake?

Can someone tell me how the spring attaches to the service brake on a "49 AR? Or, does anyone have a picture of the setup? I'm working on mine and someone stretched out the main spring and also added a screen door(?) spring too. Not sure if I'm missing a piece under there or not. Can't really...

Do I need a gasket sealer?

Put new seals and bearings in my '49 AR. Just have to tighten axles up to get the correct end play. When I put the rear axle cover back on(with a new gasket), should I put some kind of gasket shellac/sealer on it too, or is just the gasket itself enough? New gasket seems REALLY thin compared to...

    John Deere classic green paint?

I'm redoing a '49 unstyled AR. I've been painting all the little parts with John Deere Classic green paint. I'm putting a new set of Detwiler repro fenders on it and also stripped the Detwiler hood that the previous owner put on it, specifically so the paint on the tin all matches. Took the 3...

    Preload on AR axle bearings?

How do I tighten the axle bearings on my '49 unstyled AR to the right preload? The axle is installed with the outer roller bearing on, you install the inner roller bearing, put on the bull gear, and tighten the castle nut. This pulls the 2 roller bearings together into the cups. Simple enough...

    AR rear seals?

I have a '49 unstyled AR that I'm working on. Took off the hood today to get at the fuel tank. The fill neck came loose so I have to get that resoldered. I'm also replacing the rear fenders. The left fender was really beat up so I bought 2 new fenders from Detwilers tractor parts. They look...

    Can't shift out of gear.

My '57 350 has gotten hard to shift out of gear if there's any pressure on it. For example, I was blading the other day and the blade sucked down in some soft ground, and since I was basically just idling along I killed the tractor. Wanting to back up, it took both arms pulling on the gear...

    Fuel tank repair?

I've got a '49 AR that the fill neck has come loose from the tank. These were originally just soldered on weren't they? I've got a radiator shop that will look at it to see if they think they can solder it back together or my son can also weld it. Which would be the better option? Thank you. Greg

    AR clutch?

The clutches on both my '49 AR and '49 B are adjusted in far enough that the castle nuts are JUST catching on the cotter pins. Both clutches work fine, but since they're so far in, should I start to replace clutch parts? If so, is just the discs enough? Is there a minimum disc thickness I can...

My B is only firing on one cyl (still)

I've asked about this before and I'm still working on it. My 49 B with a mag is only firing on one cyl. It's timed wrong in that the top mag wire is going to the clutch side of the tractor. If you pull that wire out of the mag, nothing changes with the way it's running. Pull the bottom wire and...

    AR oil bath air cleaner

Picked up a '49 AR a while back. Just got around to looking at the oil bath air cleaner. WOW...dumped out about a half gallon of "cream"! Don't have my manual yet (on the way!), but can someone tell me how much oil to put in it? Don't see any specific markings on it. Does the oil go under or...

    8n loader?

Can anyone tell me what kind of loader this is?? This is on my 8n, don't see any tags at all on it. Thank you. Greg
