Model designation. Always thought that C series was 2 wheel drive, K series was 4 wheel drive. Picked one up on auction, listed as R 20.
Also, when did the 3/4 ton truck switch from full floating rear axle to semi floating?
Thanks in advance.

The 1/2 tons went to the new body style in 1988, the heavier pickups and 'burbs didn't change, IIRC 'til '92.

The carried-over body style heavy units were designated "R" and "V" in 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1991, then reverted to being called "K" and "C" when the style was updated.

If those dates aren't EXACTLY correct, they are CLOSE.

bob is right on the R code, and your right on the older square body chevys c is 2wd k is 4x4, as for full floating vs semi floating they had both, it depends on weather its was sold as a light duty 3/4 ton, [6000 gvw] or heavy duty [8500 gvw and got the full floating rear, also got 12 x3 inch brakes, vs 12 x 2 3/4 on the light duty] look for the build tag, it can be on the glove box door, the drivers door piller, or on the left front inner fender panel to determine what yours is
